'Kids Try to Dress Themselves for the First Time'
PLAYFULNESS – SELF EXPRESSION – UNCONSCIOUS – FEELING SAFE
Research has shown that playfulness, such as intrinsic motivation, helps a lot with mental health and thus forms a solution for this overstimulating world. With this, I was inspired by my playful childhood and the freedom of the digital world.
The collection 'New Playground' is about re-discovering the playfulness of our childhood. During my childhood I was so much more playful and free, something I would like to re-discover as a designer through digital tools.
This collection is to show how beautiful the world can be when the social rules and logic we are taught in our youth disappear, while the respect for others remains. The desire for a liberated self-expression, so that we bring back the playfulness in our appearance and behavior, and we experience less stress and more fun.
DESIGN PROCESS
The designs came to life through a lot of experimenting (physical and digital). Every look has elements of discovery and play, challenging the user to seek new ways of getting dressed. The 5 showpieces question the way 'how it should be' and applause the unconscious, curious mindset of a child in the most surrealistic way.
With this concept, I really wanted to work around the head in every look. So it would create a safe feeling of a children's stuffed animal.
Learning by doing, just like in your childhood. Working in digital program Blender and Clo3d
In my research, I found out that texture is important for children's curious touch. I translated this in making a physical embroidery, which is digital in looks 3 and 4.
LINE-UP
The stuffed animal avatars are a reference to the importance of the digital game for children and the playfulness of the digital world, shown in a surrealistic way.
